Henson Signing by Welsh as Genius

Richard Cockerill, the Director of Rugby of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Union side the Leicester Tigers believes that Gavin Henson, the new summer signing by London Welsh could turn out to be a stroke of brilliance by the club, branding the player as a ‘genius’ in his own right.

Welsh, the newly promoted side to the Aviva Premiership from the RFU Championship, the second division of professional rugby in the Rugby Union League in England has made a number of signings to signal their intent in the top flight; and the Welsh rugby bad boy is seen as the most controversial of all their signings.

And Henson is all set to make his debut against The Tigers when the record winners of the Aviva Premiership visit The Dragons for the first match of the new season of rugby, which kicks off on the 2nd of September. The move for Henson by The Welsh have not gone down well with the fans and pundits, who are terming his signing as a potential disaster due to his past records but according to the Leicester Tigers boss, they have pulled off a major transfer coup by signing him.

Cockerill believes that Henson is a world class player, and on his day can take apart any and every opposition that he comes up against. He also added that Lyn Jones, the manager of the London Welsh is just the man to handle the volatile Welshman, having worked with him for 2 years during his spell with the Ospreys.

Cockerill also added that Henson would be a threat for The Dragons regardless of his position, be it at fly half or at inside centre and according to the Leicester Tigers boss, his team will have to be wary about him when the teams go head to head against each other.
